Election Integrity Questioned by Mateo Montoya-Collis

 

Candidate Mateo Montoya-Collis has shared claims questioning the integrity of the El Paso County Sheriff’s race, suggesting his name was missing from the ballot. I want to be clear: I have seen no evidence to support this allegation, and I firmly believe the election was conducted fairly, transparently, and appropriately.

 

Nevertheless, let's entertain the theory for a moment.

 

If Candidate Montoya-Collis' name was somehow missing from the ballot, it would raise questions about whether candidates in other races were similarly affected.

 

This could potentially include:

 

• Congressional District 5 (14,524-vote margin)

• Attorney General

• Commissioner District 5

• House District 16

• And any other race appearing on the El Paso County ballot.

 

Under this same hypothetical, it would also raise the question of whether my name was missing from the ballot, meaning my victory could be even greater than my current lead of 28,546 votes.

 

However, I want to reiterate I do not believe Candidate Montoya-Collis was missing from the ballot, nor do I have reason to believe any other candidate was omitted. I firmly believe the results reported by the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder accurately reflect the choices made by El Paso County voters.

 

It is also worth asking why these allegations are being brought to the forefront only after the election results became clear and demonstrated Candidate Montoya-Collis did not receive the level of voter support necessary to win the Sheriff’s race.

 

I also want to take this opportunity to recognize the hundreds of election judges who served El Paso County throughout this election. These dedicated individuals represented different political affiliations and worked together to ensure our election process was carried out responsibly and professionally.

 

I extend my sincere appreciation to each of these election judges and to the hardworking employees of the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office. Their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our community deserve recognition and respect.

 

Election integrity is not something to be casually questioned or used to cast doubt on the democratic process without evidence. We should always welcome legitimate questions and investigate credible concerns. But we must also respect the thousands of hours of work performed by election officials and the confidence voters place in our electoral system.

 

I stand by the election process and the results reported by the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder.

This victory belongs to the people of El Paso County.

I am deeply humbled and honored to have been re-elected to serve a second term as your Sheriff. The overwhelming margin of support in this election is a powerful reflection of the confidence the citizens of El Paso County have placed in me. I am sincerely grateful to everyone who supported our campaign, stood beside us, and made their voices heard. This trust is something I hold with the utmost respect, and I never take for granted the responsibility which comes with serving this community.

I also want to thank the voters for passing Ballot Measure 1A, the Public Safety Tax. This further demonstrates the confidence the community has in me and the men and women of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. This investment is essential to advancing the mission of public safety throughout the Pikes Peak region. Your support recognizes the importance of providing our public safety professionals with the resources needed to protect our communities, serve our citizens, and meet the challenges ahead.

As we look toward the next four years, my commitment remains steadfast. We will continue working to reduce the number of victims in our community, prevent crime, and protect those we serve. We will build upon the progress we have made, strengthen partnerships, and continue earning the trust of the people of El Paso County.

Serving as your Sheriff has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I am excited about what lies ahead and look forward to working alongside the dedicated men and women of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and our public safety partners to ensure our region remains a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.
